EDC

Everyday Carry, or EDC, generally refers to small items or gadgets worn, carried, or made available in pockets, holsters, or bags on a daily basis to manage common tasks or for use in unexpected situations or emergencies. In a broader sense, it is a lifestyle, discipline, or philosophy of preparedness.

Zebra Sharbo X LT3 vs ST3

Editor’s Note: Listen to this nerd talk about very similar yet slightly different pens! I am not affiliated with JetPens, fyi.

Uni Shift 0.5 drafting pencil x Tombow Mono Zero rectangle eraser

Editor’s Note: everyone likes this combo apparently…

Editor’s Note: Wow, this really made my morning. If you guys have a minute please follow @JetPens and be sure to take a look around their site — they have been my #1 source for quality pens and pencils. This is the best way I can say thanks to them, so please check them out. I’m a huge fan of the Zebra Sharbo X, and JetPens is giving me the opportunity of trying out the slimmer LT3 model. Thanks JetPens, congratulations on the 1000 followers, and thanks to all of my readers and followers as well! B)

My two favorite writing utensils, together at last. They don’t make the Lamy Scribble murdered-out edition anymore, I got the last one muahahahaha.

Editor’s Note: YMFY’s murdered out pair of the CountyComm Embassy Pen and Lamy Scribble 3.15mm Pencil.

Anonymous asked: does EDC include pens / pencils? if so do you recc. any mechanical pencils that are high quality?

Sure it does!

My favorite pencil is just part of my Zebra Sharbo X. I also have a Uni-ball Shift but I wouldn’t say that kind of pencil is for everyone. It’s a drafting pencil that sacrifices some ergonomics/comfort (imo) but it’s pretty solid and the ability to retract the tip is useful to avoid bending it.

As far as mechanical pencils go, I still tend to look for drafting pencils, which again, might not fit your purposes… I remember wanting an Ohto ProMecha, a Lamy Scribble, and a Rotring at some point.

I’m really not an expert — maybe you can find something you like at JetPens or pencils.jp. Don’t forget to check out these lists at Dave’s Mechanical Pencils: Top 10 General | Top 10 Drafting

Other readers: if you have some recommendations, feel free to leave one via Disqus and I’ll edit them into this post. Thanks.

Update:

novh recommends the Rotring 600 series in lava.

Will B suggests the Zebra M-701.

Uniball Shift @ JetPens
The “Shift” feature of this drafting pencil by Uniball is my favorite — it protects the lead guide from bending, which allows worry-free pocket carry. The knurling on the grip is substantial, but for some, may seem uncomfortable. The body is some sort of light plastic but wears discretely - scratches are faint and matte.
